La plupart du temps, on essaie de se faire comprendre par les gestes quand on ne parle pas la langue.

Une Française en Chine
Je venais d'arriver en Chine et me retrouvai devant un stand de pâtisseries. Comme je m'étais exercée, avant mon départ, avec un ami chinois à répéter quelques expressions indispensables de la vie courante, fière de moi et tout à fait sûre de la prononciation, je pointai du doigt les objets de ma convoitise et dis en chinois: « Ces deux-là ». La dame prit un sachet et commença à le remplir de gâteaux. Vaguement inquiète, je lui montrai deux doigts en répétant bien « ces deux-là ». La vendeuse eut un instant d'hésitation, regarda mes doigts et continua à remplir le sachet. «Non, non, non. Deux! », lui dis-je, en commençant à m'énerver et en agitant mes deux doigts devant mon visage. Elle me signifia qu'elle avait compris, prit un dernier gâteau et le mit dans le sachet, que je pris tout en essayant de lui expliquer que je n'en voulais pas tant. Ce n'est que plus tard que je compris que le geste que j'avais fait avec mes deux doigts (le pouce et l'index vers l' avant) signifiait huit.


Most of the time we use gestures to make ourselves understood when we do not have the language.

A French lady in China
I had just arrived in China and found myself in front of a cake stall. Having repeated some essential phrases for survival to my Chinese friend before departure, proud of myself and quite sure of the pronunciation, I pointed my finger at the object I wanted and said: "Those two" in Chinese. She took a bag, and started filling it with cakes. To be sure I showed her two fingers and repeated "Those two". The seller hesitated a little, looked at my fingers and continued to put more cakes in the bags. "No, no, no. Two", I told her agitatedly putting my two fingers on my nose. She nodded, reached for one more cake and put it in the bag ... Finally I took it into my hands and explained that I did not want so many. It was only later that the gesture I had made placing the two fingers (the thumb and the index finger pointing outwards) on my nose meant eight.

Artistic workshop for minor refugees - Atelier artistique pour réfugiés mineurs.

In a few days from now, I'll be working with Paola and Laura in the Reception center for refugees in Brussels. The project was to create an artistic workshop about the participants' ( 15-17 year-old refugees ) identity and own past history. To do so, the idea was to create a book in which each chapter would be the artworks of one kid. I was thinking that the first image could be an autoportrait, then an image representing themselves in their former life, in their today life and to end with an image about their own projection into their future life. To do so, I'd first introduce them different easy mediums ( drawings, painting, stamp, collage, etc...). Do you have any suggestions about this project?

Atelier artistique pour jeunes réfugiés - l'idée de travailler autour du livre. Créer un livre ou chaque chapitre représenterait chaque jeune. Pour se faire il commencerait par un autoportrait puis par une représentation de lui-même dans sa vie passée, sa vie d'aujourd'hui et une projection dans sa vie future. Pour se faire, je ferai une matinée où je les initierai à divers mediums simples à utiliser ( dessin, peinture, tampon, collage, etc...). Auriez-vous des suggestions à me faire ?
